God Is Speaking
Written by: Richie L.
Just as we can hear the wind but not necessarily understand it, God is always speaking. Birds are chirping, waves are crashing, leaves are rustling. When we take time to just “be”, we may get a better understanding of what He is saying to us. “Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.” (Psalms 46:10 NLT)
The Bible is the written word of God. It is confined to paper, ink, pages, or even a screen. The Voice of God, however, is alive. It is His voice, or Spirit, that continues to speak to us through the Bible and throughout our lives. If we leave the Bible on the shelf, it is simply that, a book on a shelf. When we read it, God speaks to us in the present, bringing the written Word in the Bible to life. “The Spirit alone gives eternal life. Human effort accomplishes nothing. And the very words I have spoken to you are spirit and life.” (John 6:63 NLT)
AW Tozer explains it well when he writes “God did not write a book and send it by messenger to be read at a distance by unaided minds. He spoke a Book and lives in His spoken words, constantly speaking His words and causing the power of them to persist across the years.”
In order to be a doer of the Word, we must first be a hearer/reader of the Word. Today, we have trained our ears to hear, and thus be distracted, by the many noises of the world. We are quick to know about current events, trends, sports, and popular culture. Are we just as quick to pick up our Bibles, worship and pray? Do we have as good of an understanding of what God is speaking to us as we have of what the world is telling us? Our eternal welfare depends on this. Are you too busy or too stubborn to give your attention to God?
God was not silent and then one day find His voice, speak creation into existence and speak throughout the Bible, then return to silence. God is present. God is speaking. Are you listening?
