Ode To The Falls
Ode to the Falls
Written by Saron W
Jesus replied, “Anyone who drinks this water will soon become thirsty again. But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.” (John 4:13-14)
I went up the mountain to pursue the falls.
Expectant and excited,
anticipating the glorious sight awaiting me.
Feeling Your presence with every step
surrounded by the power and majesty of Your creation
Of the cool feel upon my skin
Of the freedom
Of the satisfaction and feeling of accomplishment when I reached the top.
The beauty was breathtaking
The sound was deafening as it echoed through my ears and into my mind.
As I approached the flowing falls, my heart began to pound
As I prepared myself to be submerged.
The water was cool and the pellets stung my skin.
But
All the effort
All the striving
All the excitement
to reach the top
Ended in a moment
As I realized that nothing
Nothing at all
Compares to You.
There is nothing greater than You
And Your love.
As I sat on the rock to dry off, I lifted my hands to the Lord
Praising Him and only Him
Thanking Him for showing me this one thing
That He is All
That He is enough
That He is more than enough
The waterfall paled in comparison.
As I worshiped and praised Him
surrendering all
so grateful for this revelation
The sun poked through the thick vegetation of the rain forest
And lit upon my face
And again
I thanked Him for Loving me
Loving Him.
He is the living water
that never dies
never disappoints
and never ends.
On the last day, the climax of the festival, Jesus stood and shouted to the crowds, “Anyone who is thirsty may come to me! “Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.’” (John 7:37-38)
No amount of striving can ever satisfy our souls. No matter how hard we may try, it just doesn’t cut it. I remember the moment that I realized something very special about Jesus and the Holy Spirit. It happened this past winter while I was in Honduras, doing mission work and helping people out with food, clothing and any other needs that came about. And this one particular day, after being pulled in a lot of directions and asked for many things from many different people I looked up and said to God, “I wish they would just come to me, to be with me.”
At that moment, I realized that that is all He wants. Just for us to be with Him. Sure, it's fine to want things, and ask for things and pray for things. But to just BE with Him is the beauty, the love and the sincere holiness of His being; to bask in His joy, His pleasure, His being, His will. He loves us so unconditionally, and that is all He wants; and that is all we need.
“Deep calls to deep at the [thundering] sound of Your waterfalls; All Your breakers and Your waves have rolled over me. Yet the Lord will command His lovingkindness in the daytime, And in the night His song will be with me, A prayer to the God of my life.” (Psalms 42:7-8 AMP)
