Day Four: Prayer & Fasting

Day Four

”“And when you fast, don’t make it obvious, as the hypocrites do, for they try to look miserable and disheveled so people will admire them for their fasting. I tell you the truth, that is the only reward they will ever get. But when you fast, comb your hair and wash your face. Then no one will notice that you are fasting, except your Father, who knows what you do in private. And your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.“
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭6‬:‭16‬-‭18‬ ‭NLT‬‬

I think the true nature of a person is revealed in the dark when no one is around.

Our true selves are who we are when no one is around to see us, except God.

He sees you when you sleeping.
He knows when you're awake.
He knows if you’ve been bad or bad
So… God is the true Santa Clause.

This is why in a way, fasting is the secret weapon of a believer.

When you fast, no one truly knows your motives and intentions like God does.

You could cheat.
You can brag about it.
You can pretend.

Or you can truly pursue God.
Deny yourself the temporary pleasure for an eternal reward.

Fasting says, God, I really want you.
I am not in this for the applause of mere humans.
I am more than my physical cravings.
I crave you, God.
I want more of you.
Fill me with more of you.
Renew my union with you.
Restore my joy in you.
You God are the lover of my soul.

”That is why the Lord says, “Turn to me now, while there is time. Give me your hearts. Come with fasting, weeping, and mourning. Don’t tear your clothing in your grief, but tear your hearts instead.” Return to the Lord your God, for he is merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. He is eager to relent and not punish.“
‭‭Joel‬ ‭2‬:‭12‬-‭13‬ ‭NLT‬‬

The reward of fasting is God.
