Sad

“Looking at the man, Jesus felt genuine love for him. “There is still one thing you haven’t done,” he told him. “Go and sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” At this the man’s face fell, and he went away sad, for he had many possessions.” - Mark 10:21-22 NLT
I have seen countless people walk away from Jesus for countless reasons.
I wonder how are they doing now?
Can you get a taste for the grace of God and go on with life, like nothing happened?
Did they actually taste the grace of God?
Did they just attend church, but never met Jesus personally?
It made Jesus sad to see this young men walk away from Jesus, who is life.
How do you actually live life away from the one who is the way, the truth and the life?
He cared more about his possessions.
Others walk away because they care more about a romantic relationship, career, sports,
friends, being right, and many other bowls of soup that this world has to offer.
It is truly heart-breaking to see people walk away from Jesus.
And it is supposed to hurt. Otherwise, we don't really care.
At some point, we all have felt the temptation to walk away for whatever reason.
In those moments, I usually think about Peter, from New Bedford who said:
“Then Jesus turned to the Twelve and asked, “Are you also going to leave?” Simon Peter replied, “Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words that give eternal life.”
John 6:67-68 NLT
As Eugene Peterson has said, This journey is a long obedience in the same direction.
