Day Three: Prayer & Fasting

Day Three

”Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win! All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing. I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified.“
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭9‬:‭24‬-‭27‬ ‭NLT‬‬

The Apostle Paul compares being a Christian to being an athlete.

Athletes put their bodies through strict training and diet regimens in order to produce the maximum results. And they do it for a mere sport, which in light of eternity is not that significant.

So how much more should a believer discipline his body knowing that they are “playing” for eternity?

The game of life has eternal ramifications. This is about life or death. There's no time for laziness and mediocre approach. We must give it all we got.

So we must run with purpose.

Paul says we should not shadowbox, which is to pretend to box. There's no time to play church and just merely go through the motions. We must activate our faith into action.

Master your body. Train it into submission.

Kill the flesh. Refuse to be a victim of sin.

”You say, “I am allowed to do anything”—but not everything is good for you. And even though “I am allowed to do anything,” I must not become a slave to anything.“
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭6‬:‭12‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Train your mind. Renew it daily with the Word of God.

You are a spiritual athlete.

You are playing for team Jesus and the ultimate reward is Heaven.
