Self-improvement is killing it right now.

With an Iphone, a social media account and the ability to google some stuff, you can become a self-improvement influencer.

Or you can start a podcast.

It is a huge market.

Some churches are also into it as well.

Many sermon series on becoming the best version of YOU.
And the alarming part is that church goers don't even see anything wrong with it.

So how is that working out?

Do a bit of googling and you can find out for yourself or just pay attention to our society.

Suicide rate is way up among young men.
Anxiety and depression is now the new normal.
Less people are getting married, because that's not how you improve self.
You are not a full adult until around the age of 27.
We live in one of the greatest countries in the world, with the most miserable people in the world.

Interesting enough, there's a rise in spirituality.
There are more people practicing religion, crystals, looking up psychics and even trying churches.

But, here’s the catch:
It is all for self-improvement.

Whatever “god” is out there, he is a means to an end.
To make me happy, lean, young and immortal and hopeful attractive.

If it does not bring good vibes, then its pointless.
Move on to the next self-deity.

Here is Jesus solution to self-improvement:

“Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it. What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭16‬:‭24‬-‭26‬ ‭NIV‬‬

That is not a very sexy message.

Deny self?
Carry a cross?
Follow? Instead of being the lead?

Jesus says, self is the problem.
Suffering is inevitable(cross)
You can't lead if you don't know how to follow.

Jesus is NOT a means to an end.
He is the MEANS and the END.
