Avoid Complacency
Written by: Richie L.
“Talk to him about “moderation in all things.” If you can once get him to the point of thinking that “religion is all very well up to a point,” you can feel quite happy about his soul. A moderated religion is as good for us as no religion at all— and more amusing”. (C.S. Lewis from Screwtape Letters)
The enemy uses so many subtle tactics against us, a master tactician of suggestion, doubts and lies. How easy it is for the enemy to plant a seed of comfort and complacency. Things that are on the surface do not appear to be truly evil in nature. It is against God’s plan to remain in the same season and remain comfortable at all times. We are meant to grow, to be challenged and to be pruned into that which God has created us for. “He cuts off every branch of mine that doesn’t produce fruit, and he prunes the branches that do bear fruit so they will produce even more.” - John 15:2 NLT
If we continue to remain comfortable in our faith, we are giving that foothold to the devil, allowing him to whisper to us “read your bible only when you have down time, go to church only when you feel like it.” The enemy wants us to keep our eyes focused on the future and not the present. “Pray tomorrow, help those who need it when you have time, someone else will do it today.” For when we remain only focused on the future, we forget about the present. God wants us here, now and always.
If we become too comfortable, we will think that someone else is busy preparing the soil and planting the seeds. We will just sit and wait to reap the harvest. But if your neighbor is thinking the same thing, there will be no planting happening, and thus no harvest. So let us focus on today. Don’t become idle in your faith, and don’t allow the enemy to let you think that moderation is enough. Be on fire for God every chance you can! Fight back with a zeal for your faith when the enemy wants you to take the day off. Remain on mission and focused on God’s will while pushing forward to advance His kingdom.
“Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do.” (Ephesians 5:16-17 NLT)
Prayer: God, Thank You for waking me up today. I ask that You would fill my heart with peace and understanding. Stretch me and mature me. Replenish my heart, filling it with joy, purpose, holiness, and zeal for Your word. I pray that I can be a great example of Your testimony to others. Please protect me today. Prepare my heart to lead, affirm me through my work, and ignite passion in me to love others the way you do, in Jesus' name Amen.
