Open The Eyes of My Heart, Lord!
Written by: Dre T.
“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.” - Matthew 5:8
There is an old song by an OG worship leader named Michael W. Smith and it is called, “Open The Eyes of My Heart”.
The song basically repeats Matthew 5:8 by saying “open the eyes of my heart Lord, I want to see You.”
To see God is our deepest longing in life. With our physical eyes and our spiritual eyes. Our spiritual eyes are our hearts. Before we come to Jesus we do not have pure hearts.
A heart that wants what Jesus wants = a pure heart.
The problem is we don’t always want what Jesus wants.
The Bible is very clear that on our own we don’t see God, we can’t see God, and we don’t want to see God.
In our own pride our hearts are full of impurity, our hearts are hard, and our hearts are looking only for what serves our best interest.
But I’m thankful that we serve a God Who pursues us while we are still sinners. Once we accept Him into our lives, He begins to change us from the inside out.
He gives us the ultimate heart transplant.
We no longer look at things from our own selfish perspective and His character becomes our own. The fruit of His Spirit becomes more evident in our lives and because of Who He is…We become purer in heart.
We are always a work in progress, but thank God He never gets tired and is always working on us.
Don’t give up. Never stop repenting. Never stop praying and seeking the heart of Jesus.
He becomes the lens through which you look at the World. Just like someone with a new pair of glasses that used to be dirty and foggy, your heart now has a new clear filter of Grace, love, and the desire for what God wants.
Jesus promises that once He starts purifying you from the inside out, the result is you will see God in your everyday life by faith.
AND one day our faith WILL be sight, when we are all living in His Presence fully for eternity and our hearts will be totally and completely healed and aligned with Jesus.
But we don’t have to wait for that Glorious day when Christ returns. He is working on you right now.
Is Jesus truly the Lord of your life and King of your heart? Turn to Him, seek Him, and know that you are never alone.
Prayer:
"Jesus, I thank you for who You are. Make Your home in my heart and purify me from the inside out. Make me more like You. Soften my heart to see You, Hear You, and Obey You today…and everyday of my life. I love You and please lead and guide me today. Amen.”
