“We know what real love is because Jesus gave up his life for us. So we also ought to give up our lives for our brothers and sisters.”
1 John 3:16 (NLT)
“So I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other, Just as I have loved you, you should love each other.”
John 13:34 (NLT)
Spend 5 minutes in Prayer
Holy Father! Lord of Lords! You are the name above all other names! I lift up Your name in praise and reverence in all that I do and say. The Bible shows that Jesus commanded us to “Love your neighbor as yourself.”, and that this was the 2nd most important commandment after loving the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength. Father, sometimes it can be a challenge for us to remember to love our neighbors as we love ourselves, especially when they have different viewpoints, lifestyles and ideologies than we do. In these moments I need You more than ever to see and remember that each and every one of us is Your most prized possession and worthy of all respect, love and encouragement. Please, God, help me to remember this command when my human self wants to be judgmental or look the other way. Remind me that I am not perfect and so I shouldn’t expect anyone else to be - no one will ever come close to the blameless Lamb of God, Jesus Christ. Lord, soften my heart so that I may embrace everyone that crosses my path and care for and treat them the way Jesus would. In those times when I cross the path of someone who doesn’t look, behave or think like me, I will call out for more grace to humble myself, embrace the moment and serve like Jesus did. I pray this in the Heavenly name of Jesus Christ, Amen!
