Good Friday
Written by: Richie L.
On Good Friday we remember the day Jesus stepped in on our behalf, willingly suffered and died by crucifixion. This was the ultimate sacrifice for OUR sins, for WHOSOEVER. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16 NIV)
It is followed by Easter, the glorious celebration of the resurrection, the day Jesus was raised from the dead. This was His victory over sin and death and pointing ahead to a future resurrection for all who are united to Him by faith. “We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin. For when we died with Christ we were set free from the power of sin.” (Romans 6:6-7 NLT)
So what makes Good Friday “good”? That awful day of suffering, sorrow, and shed blood at the cross, was required. It was a terrible day, but it had to happen for us to receive the joy of Easter. God poured His wrath against sin out on Jesus, the perfect sacrificial lamb, in order for forgiveness and salvation to be poured out to all who accept Jesus as their Lord and Saviour.
On this day or remembrance, I urge you to read: Matthew 27:11-66
Bible Project: Matthew 14-28
