Stay Alert
Written by Richie L.
Read Mark 13:32-37
“However, no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself. Only the Father knows. And since you don’t know when that time will come, be on guard! Stay alert! “The coming of the Son of Man can be illustrated by the story of a man going on a long trip. When he left home, he gave each of his slaves instructions about the work they were to do, and he told the gatekeeper to watch for his return. You, too, must keep watch! For you don’t know when the master of the household will return—in the evening, at midnight, before dawn, or at daybreak. Don’t let him find you sleeping when he arrives without warning. I say to you what I say to everyone: Watch for him!”” (Mark 13:32-37)
As the days go by, technology continues to advance. Collectively, we become better at creating new things and growing our understanding of things. However, we cannot predict what is to come. We don’t know what tomorrow brings, let alone have the ability to know when Jesus is going to return. That alone is reserved for God. Only He is able to see all things, past, present and future.
Our duty is to stay alert, watch, spread the gospel and pray. We must remain expectant of Jesus’ return. We must remain vigilant as we do not know the hour of His return. Stay alert, as Jesus may call us home before He comes for the final judgement. From the moment we are born, we begin to die. We just don’t know how many breaths each one of us may have. Every day is a blessing.
Knowing this, we must live each day with an eternal perspective. Daily, we should live in relationship with God. We should not put off until tomorrow living for God today. Today is the day we must confess our sins to God, repent of them and accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior. Seeking God, His grace and His mercy every day, we will be ready for whatever is to come. We must remain spiritually awake.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for waking me up this morning. Thank You for all the blessings that You provide in my life, and for revealing Yourself to me. Today I pray that I don’t take this day for granted. Help me to maintain an eternal perspective, knowing that one day I will rest with You. Until that day comes, give me the strength to push forward for Your kingdom. Use me as a vessel to help You on Your rescue mission for all who are lost. All praise and honor to You, in Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
